Gregg is a principal with a focus on early-stage startups creating solutions for the design and construction phases. He brings to the Building Ventures team operational experience across each functional area of business and a “boots on the ground” sense for the hard work, cross-stakeholder alignment, and ease of use and deployment needed to reach true adoption and scale deploying into construction and the trades.
Gregg joined the team in January 2021 after nearly a decade at Hilti Group. As CMO of Hilti Spain, Gregg oversaw a rebuilding phase that drove sales growth 3x the pace of the country’s construction sector, and he guided reorganizational work that enabled the launch of new software and services with a trade-segmented sales and marketing structure.
More recently, Gregg opened Hilti’s startup-focused function in Silicon Valley, where he guided dozens of partnerships and selective investments. Gregg and his team met over 750 startups and raised external awareness for Hilti’s role in the innovation ecosystem while becoming active in tech communities including BuiltWorlds, the Silicon Valley Telecom Council, Silicon Valley Robotics, Stanford’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering, the Society for Construction Solutions, CIDCI, and Swissnex. Several of the deals he and his team completed became public, including the acquisition of Concrete Sensors.
Prior to Hilti, Gregg’s pre- and post-MBA career was at Bain & Company, where he worked as a management consultant for tech, media, telecom, and energy sectors. Gregg graduated with a BA from Davidson College, and he has an MBA from the Wharton School as well as an MA from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania. After experiencing an Upwardly Global session as an MBA volunteer a decade ago, Gregg now serves as an AEC Industry advisor for the NGO and is a frequent mentor for the highly qualified legal immigrant job seekers the organization supports. Gregg is based in San Francisco.
